Lancaster Sheriff’s Station Deputies rescue baby and father from fully engulfed, burning apartment.

Shortly after 4:00pm, Lancaster Sheriff’s Station received a call for service of a structure fire in an apartment complex near 16th Street West and Avenue K-8.

When deputies arrived, they found several apartments fully engulfed in flames. As the fire department fought to put the fire out, they asked for a complete evacuation of the buildings. Despite neighbors assuring that everyone was safely evacuated, Deputies Harris and Goldstein ran up the stairwell of the burning building to the 2nd floor to ensure everyone was out. Deputies Harris and Goldstein noticed one door in particular was closed and locked, and fearing someone was still inside began knocking on it. When no one answered, Deputy Harris kicked the door open as Deputy Goldstein ran in. Inside, Deputy Goldstein found a startled male adult standing in the hallway, clearly having just woken from a nap. Deputy Goldstein quickly ran through the apartment, checking every room, and found a small child asleep in his own room. Deputy Goldstein grabbed the child and ran out of the burning building while escorting the father to run out as well.

Once safely outside, the father slowly realized the magnitude of the fire and thanked Deputies Harris and Goldstein numerous times.

My hero wears a badge.
