DUARTE WEEKLY CRIME BLOTTER Sept. 9 - Sept. 15, 2018

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of September 09 thru September 15, 2018
 
September 09, 2018

  •  No significant activity.                 
 
September 10, 2018
  • A Petty Theft was reported in the 1600 block of Brightside Avenue.  A male Hispanic adult was observed prying a tool box from the rear bed of the victim’s truck, then sliding the tool box onto his truck and driving away.  The suspect’s vehicle was described as an older model Chevy or GMC.  The loss was estimated at $500.
 
  • A Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 2000 block of Broadland Avenue.  A 1989 Toyota Pickup was stolen from the street between 7:00 pm on 09-09-18 and 9:00 am on 09-10-18.  The truck was recovered on 09-11-18 in the city of Azusa.  No suspects in custody.  
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported in the 2100 block of Citrus View Avenue.  The victim’s wallet containing approximately $800 was stolen from inside her house.  The victim believes a family member staying with them may have stolen the wallet.  The investigation is on-going.  
 
  • While on routine patrol, a deputy saw a male adult driving a 2001 Honda Accord eastbound on Beckville Street with no license plates.  As the deputy was turning around, the driver pulled into a driveway in the 2100 block of Broach Avenue, exited the vehicle and ran towards the side of a residence, attempting to disassociate himself from the vehicle. The driver was quickly detained. After further investigation, the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Baldwin Park earlier in the day, and the suspect was arrested for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

September 13, 2018
  • An Assault with a Deadly Weapon was reported in the 2300 block of Bloomdale Street. At approximately 9:33 pm, the victim was walking down the street when he was approached by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.  Without hesitation, the suspect punched the victim in the face several times and he fell to the ground.  While on the ground, the suspect kicked the victim several times in the face.  The victim was able to get up and run away. The suspect fled in a silver Honda CRV.  
  • A Commercial Burglary was reported at 1723 Huntington Drive (Sushi Fire). Deputies responded to the location at 4:30 am, regarding a burglary alarm activation.  Upon arrival, they found the front door pried open and cleared the location of any possible suspects.  At the time of the report, the owner was unsure if anything had been stolen. The investigation is on-going.
 
  • While on routine patrol, a deputy’s attention was drawn to an adult male standing in the street in the 2000 block of Broadland Avenue.  The deputy recognized the male from previous contacts, and knew he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The male was arrested without incident.  The male was also found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and additionally charge with possession of a controlled substance.       
 
September 14, 2018
  • No significant activity.            
 
September 15, 2018
  • Two separate incidents of Petty Theft were reported at the same time at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  An adult male was detained by store security after attempting to walk out with over $450 in miscellaneous merchandise.  After further investigation, the male was arrested for shoplifting and the stolen property was recovered.  The male was a resident of Simi Valley. 
 
As deputies arrived to handle the above investigation, they were advised that an adult female was also observed shoplifting, and had already walked out of the store without paying for approximately $200 in merchandise concealed in a large purse.  Deputies detained the female as she entered the Denny’s restaurant.  After further investigation, the female was arrested for shoplifting.  The female was also from Simi Valley.

  •  Deputies arrested an adult male on an outstanding narcotics warrant. 
 
September 10, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, and an adult male on an outstanding narcotics warrant.
 
September 11, 2018
  • No significant activity.
 
September 12, 2018
  • No significant activity.          
 
September 13, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male for possession of a controlled substance, and three adult males on outstanding narcotics warrants.
 
September 14, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male on an outstanding narcotics warrant, and an adult male on an outstanding parole violation warrant. 
 
 
September 15, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male for Petty Theft/Shoplifting. 
*** In addition to the above outlined arrests, one person was cited or released for driving without a driver’s license/driving with a suspended license.
