Fatal Hit & Run Investigation

On Monday, September 17, 2018, at approximately 5:00 AM, Torrance Police Officers responded to the area of Hawthorne Boulevard and 227th Street after a passerby reported a bicyclist was down.  Upon arrival, Officers located an unresponsive bicyclist in the northbound #4 lane of Hawthorne Boulevard.  Officers administered CPR; however, the victim was unfortunately pronounced to be deceased by The Torrance Fire Department.  The suspect did not remain at the location and fled the scene.    
 
Investigators located surveillance footage of a possible suspect vehicle which was obtained from a nearby residence.
 
The suspect vehicle is described as a 2006 – 2009 Toyota 4-Runner that is tan or light gold in color. The vehicle should have front-end damage, particularly near the area of the bumper.  Pictured right is a portion of the bumper left from the suspect’s vehicle.
 
The adult male victim (bicyclist) has not been identified at this point in the investigation.
 
Northbound traffic lanes on Hawthorne Boulevard will be shut down between 226th Street and 230th Street during the course of the preliminary investigation.
