Late this afternoon Fremont patrol officers and detectives arrested an adult male in connection with an attempt homicide that occurred earlier in the day.
Today at approximately 11:00 a.m. Fremont Police patrol officers responded to a 911 call from a screaming female, reporting a family member had been attacked by a man with a machete. Multiple Fremont Police patrol officers and Fremont Fire paramedics responded to the 3000 block of Rockett Drive (near Central Park). Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from multiple lacerations, consistent with a stabbing to the head and face, as well as a large crime scene.
The victim was conscious and treated by Fremont Fire personnel, then transported by ambulance to a trauma center.
The male suspect fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect was known to the victim. The weapon, believed to be a machete (or similar) was not located at the scene.
Patrol officers with the assistance of several detectives immediately began conducting follow up to identify and locate the suspect. Through investigative leads, the suspect was located in Union City. He was safely taken into custody without incident at approximately 4:00 p.m. This remains a very active investigation. The suspect’s name will be made available, as well as charges, after he is booked into Jail.
The victim has been hospitalized with major injuries stemming from this violent attack. Early indication from medical staff is that while the injuries are significant in nature, they are not believed to be life threatening.
