News Story - Burglary Suspects Arrested

Nature of Incident: Two Suspects Arrested for Commercial Burglaries and are also Suspected in Multiple Vehicle Burglaries.

Narrative:
On 9/12/18, at approximately 0330 hours, Thousand Oaks Police Department patrol deputies were dispatched to a glass break alarm at the Smoke Store located in the 100 block of Reino Road, Thousand Oaks.  Upon arrival, deputies detained Kailey Brown and Cody Marshak near the business.  Deputies conducted an investigation and determined Marshak and Brown had broken out windows to the front door of the Smoke Store.  They then entered the business and attempted to cut through the metal security gate. 
 
During their investigation, deputy’s located personal identifying information of a Thousand Oaks resident in Marshak’s and Brown’s possession.  Patrol deputies located that victim, and determined the suspects had entered her unlocked vehicle which was parked in the 400 block of Avenida De Las Flores in Thousand Oaks.  Numerous items of personal property was stolen from the victim’s vehicle.. 
 
The following morning, Thousand Oaks Police Department deputies were dispatched to additional burglaries in Newbury Park at Tobacco Royale and Julie’s Alps.  Deputies located video and physical evidence linking Marshak and Brown to the burglaries. 
 
Thousand Oaks Detectives conducted a follow up investigation and learned Marshak and Brown committed a series of vehicle burglaries and theft from vehicles in the city of Thousand Oaks in addition to the commercial burglaries. 
 
Detectives obtained a search warrant for Brown’s vehicle and located evidence linking Brown and Marshak to the commercial burglaries, and what they believe to be additional unreported vehicle burglaries/thefts. 
 
At this time the Thousand Oaks Police Detective Bureau is attempting to locate additional victims of vehicle burglaries/thefts which occurred during the early morning hours of 9/12/18.  In addition, the Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to urge citizens to lock their vehicles when they are unattended and hide any valuables which may attract people who wish to commit vehicle crimes.
