Narrative:
On September 11, 2018, Jeffrey Kibler was transported from the Pre-Trial Detention Facility (PTDF) to the Ventura County Medical Center due to a medical emergency. Mr. Kibler subsequently died a few hours after arriving at the hospital.
A preliminary investigation conducted by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit along with the results of an autopsy conducted by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that Mr. Kibler died as a result of injuries he received from an assault that took place within the jail shortly before he was transported to the hospital. This homicide investigation is still ongoing and additional information will be released at a later time.
As a matter of policy, the causes of all jail related deaths are investigated by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau.
