Lower Township Man Jumps Off Seashore Rd Bridge

On 09/13/2018 at approximately 11:19 am Cape May County Communications dispatched members of the Lower Township Police Department to the area of the Seashore Road Bridge for the report of a subject jumping off the bridge.

A witness contacted 911 and stated they observed a male subject standing next to a white pickup truck that was parked on top of the bridge, and then witnessed him jump off the bridge.

Multiple Agencies responded to the area including the Lower Township Police Department, Town Bank Fire Department, Cape May City Fire Department, West Cape May Fire Department, United States Coast Guard, State Police Marine Unit, Cape May City Police Department, Lower Township Rescue Squad, and Atlantic Care Paramedics.

Construction workers on a barge under the bridge were able to pull the man to the side of their barge until the other agencies responded. The Subject, later identified as 54-year-old Michael W. Wilson of the North Cape May section of Lower Township, was subsequently rescued from the water in a coordinated effort from all agencies involved.

The Town Bank Fire Department transported Mr. Wilson by boat to the Lower Township Municipal Boat Ramp and then the patient was transported to Atlantic City Medical Center, City Division.

Lower Township Police contacted Atlantic Care for an update on the patient and were advised he was conscious and alert.
