DUI Driver falls asleep behind the wheel… Twice

ROHNERT PARK – On 9/12/18 at approximately 9:15 AM, staff from Lawrence Jones Middle School called to report a man asleep at the wheel while his car was stopped in the middle of the road. A short moment later, officers were checking the area and were advised the car had moved and was now stopped in the middle of the road on Snyder Lane approaching Rohnert Park Expressway.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle. As they approached, they could see the driver was sound asleep and the vehicle was running and in gear. There was a long line of cars behind the stopped vehicle. One officer positioned his patrol car in front of the vehicle to keep the driver from suddenly taking off and entering the intersection.

During the contact with the driver, the officer, a drug recognition expert, determined the driver was impaired and had been driving while under the influence.

The driver was identified as 39 year old Rohnert Park resident, Ritesh Prasad.  Prasad was booked at the Sonoma County jail for driving under the influence of drugs as well as an “addict” driving under the influence.
His bail was set at $10,000. Prasad is no longer in custody.
