SUMMARY:
On September 12, 2018, at about 7:50 pm, deputies from the Hesperia Station along with medical personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a motorcycle vs. vehicle traffic collision at Main Street and Cottonwood Avenue in Hesperia. Upon arrival, deputies found the adult male motorcycle rider down in the roadway near his motorcycle with major injuries. Deputies quickly learned from witnesses that the second vehicle involved in the collision had fled the scene west on Main Street. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the adult male motorcyclist died at the scene from his injuries. With the assistance of Sheriff's Aviation and additional deputies from the Hesperia Station, an extensive search was conducted for the vehicle involved which was described by witnesses as a white SUV type vehicle. However, nothing was located in the area during the search.
Deputies from the Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to conduct the investigation. Through investigation, deputies were able to determine the adult male motorcyclist was driving east on Main Street in the number one lane on his 2018 Harley Davidson when a white in color SUV exited the driveway from the businesses on the corner to enter Main Street. The vehicle pulled directly into the path of the motorcycle, and the rider was unable to avoid the collision. The motorcycle struck the vehicle, and the rider was ejected, suffering fatal injuries. The suspect driver fled the scene with no concern for the rider’s condition immediately following the collision.
Investigators are continuing their investigation to locate the driver and determine the exact cause of the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or witnessed the suspect flee the scene is asked to contact Deputy Dustin Whitson or Sergeant Doug Hubbard at the Hesperia Station. Main Street was closed in both directions from Cottonwood Avenue to Maple Avenue until about 1:00 am while investigators processed the scene for evidence.
