Arlington Police Investigating Death of Man
The Arlington Police Department responded to a shooting around 12:55 a.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018 in 1700 block of E. Lamar at a hotel. When officers arrived, they located a 24-year old man in the parking lot with apparent gunshot wounds. This man was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators believe that a birthday party had been occurring at the hotel when several groups of men began showing up. At some point during the party, several men walked out to the parking lot to engage in a fight. According to information gained by detectives, the victim pulled out a handgun and began waiving it around before putting it back into his pants. Another man produced a handgun and shot the victim multiple times. During this exchange, the victim was able to re-withdraw his handgun and fire it back towards the suspect. It is unknown if the suspect was struck or not. The victim’s handgun was determined to be stolen out of Louisiana.

A traffic stop was conducted by other officers responding to the call that led to the discovery of marijuana and a stolen rifle out of Louisiana. The occupant of that vehicle was taken into custody and is not believed to be the shooter at this time.

There were many witnesses that were present. Investigators have collected surveillance footage from the hotel and will continue working to identify the suspect. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
