INCIDENT: Felon in possession of a firearm / Burglary

LOCATION: W. Needles Hwy / North K Street, Needles

SUSPECT(S): Ricky Lee Andrews, age 31 of Needles


SUMMARY:
On September 6, 2018, at 11:16 p.m, Deputy Wagner conducted a traffic stop on West Needles Hwy and North K. Street in Needles for an equipment violation. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Ricky Andrews. Andrews was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of drug paraphernalia and was placed under arrest.

Deputy Wagner located Andrews’ backpack and found it matched a backpack reported stolen from a burglary that occurred on August 28th. Inside the backpack was a handgun, ammunition and other items that lead Deputy Wagner to a residence on Highland Avenue. Deputy Wagner discovered the garage had been burglarized several hours earlier.

A records check showed Andrews had felony convictions in the states of Nevada and Colorado and was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.

Ricky Andrews was transported and booked into the Needles Jail for a felon in possession of a firearm, ammunition and two counts of burglary. Andrews is being held pending a court hearing with a $150,000 bail.
