INCIDENT: Vehicle Pursuit
LOCATION: State Highway 18 east of Central Avenue
SUSPECT(S): Michael Franz, 25-years-old, Resident of Adelanto
SUMMARY: On August 31, 2018, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Sergeant Evans saw a silver Infiniti G35 east on State Highway 18 near Navajo driving at unsafe speeds. The vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic and the driver, later identified as the suspect, Michael Franz, showed no regard for the safety of other motorists. Evans attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Infiniti, but Franz failed to yield, and a traffic pursuit was initiated thru the residential neighborhoods south of State highway 18. During the pursuit, Franz left the paved roadway and entered the desert at high speeds. Franz lost control of the vehicle and struck debris causing his vehicle to become disabled.
Franz exited his vehicle and ran away from it. Sheriff’s Aviation and a Sheriff’s K9 assisted with the search of the suspect. Franz was found hiding nearby. Approximately one pound of marijuana was recovered from Franz’ vehicle. Franz was arrested, checked out medically and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for Felony Evading and Transportation of Marijuana.
