Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested
Suspect: Christopher Edwards (29) (in custody)
On Saturday, August 25, 2018 at approximately 1:21 AM a 25-year-old Redwood City resident was seated on a retaining wall near the outdoor seating are of the El Grullense Restaurant at 999 El Camino Real. The restaurant was closed and there were no other patrons around. As the victim began making a call on his cell phone he was confronted by a suspect, Christopher Edwards (29), who grabbed him and violently forced him onto the ground, causing him to lose possession of his cell phone. Edwards grabbed the victim’s cell phone then demanded the victim’s money. The victim was able to wrestle his phone away from Edwards who then produced a pocket knife and threatened the victim and began chasing him through the adjacent parking lot.
The victim was able to call 9-1-1, at which time Edwards fled the area on foot. The victim provided a description and direction of travel of the suspect as he followed him from the area. Redwood City Police Department Patrol Officers arrived on scene and detained Edwards in the area of Broadway and Winslow Street. Edwards was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail for armed robbery.
The victim was not injured during the incident and all of his property was recovered.
