INCIDENT: Officer Involved Shooting
LOCATION: 16700 Block of San Bernardino Ave., City of Fontana
SUSPECT(S): Alonzo Camacho, 37-years-old, Resident of Fontana
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at about 7:50 p.m., officers from the Fontana Police Department responded to a 911 call for service of a domestic disturbance in the 16700 block of San Bernardino Avenue. When an officer arrived, he was contacted by suspect Alonzo Camacho. Camacho was armed with a large metal object and began striking the marked police vehicle. The officer exited his police vehicle and tried to arrest Camacho.
Camacho would not drop the weapon, and the officer began moving backward to create distance. Camacho tried to attack the officer, and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Camacho was struck several times by the officer’s gunfire and fell to the ground. A citizen helped the officer handcuff Camacho. Camacho was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for his injuries. Camacho is expected to recover and was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
Fontana Police Department requested the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Specialized Investigations Division-Homicide Detail to handle the investigation.
