Recent Car Burglaries and Car Thefts in Bergen County: lock your vehicles when not in use.

Good evening,

The Fort Lee Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance.  In Bergen County and across the state there has been a recent rise in car thefts and car burglaries.  Most of these cars have been left unlocked, and some with the electronic key fob left inside the vehicle.  When the key is left inside the vehicle, it is very susceptible to being stolen.  We are asking that all residents lock their vehicles, remove the key fob from the car and secure any valuables from the vehicle.

We are also asking residents to call 9-1-1 if they see any suspicious activity especially people looking into vehicles or trying car door handles.  If you believe that a vehicle is being broken into or in the process of being stolen, do not confront the suspects.  Call 9-1-1 immediately and provide information describing the suspects.  Stay on the phone until the police arrive on scene.

Thank you.

Instructions:

Lock your vehicles, remove the key fob from the car and secure any valuables from the vehicle. Call 9-1-1 if you see any suspicious activity especially people looking into vehicles or trying car door handles.
