Advisory

Red Flag Warning until 09:00PM

Winds will increase out of the southwest late this morning into the afternoon with drier air moving through southeast Utah and portions of west-central and southwest Colorado as a strong storm system moves across the north. No precipitation is expected with this system, but gusty winds up to 40 mph at times in combination with low relative humidity and dry fuels will lead to critical fire weather conditions today for east-central Utah and the Paradox Valley in west-central Colorado. The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels, which is in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening.

* AFFECTED AREA...In Colorado, Fire Weather Zone 290 Paradox Valley Forecast Area. In Utah, Fire Weather Zone 490 Colorado River Basin.

* WINDS...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts 35 to 40 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...10 to 15 percent.

* IMPACTS...Rapid rates of fire growth and spread are possible under these conditions.

* AFFECTED AREAS: PARADOX VALLEY ... COLORADO RIVER BASIN

Instructions:

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
