Press Release: Assault with a Deadly Weapon Arrests

Arrested:
Seniga, Darnell Robert DOB: 03/22/1977, BMA, Novato resident.
Grimes, Ryan Scott DOB: 11/12/1990, BMA, Novato resident.

On August 21, 2018 at 5:52 PM, a caller reported a physical altercation involving two males and a female near the 1400 block of Grant Avenue. It was reported that one suspect involved in the fight was in possession of a knife and had left the area.

Officers began searching the area and shortly after, located and detained Darnell Seniga in the 1700 block of Grant Avenue. At the time he was stopped, Seniga matched the description of the suspect and was wearing an empty knife sheath on his belt. Officers conducted a search of the area for others involved in the fight.  Officers located Ryan Grimes near the intersection of Grant Avenue and Railroad Avenue. Grimes, who matched the description of the second suspect fled from officers and rode away from the scene on his bike. Grimes refused to stop and resisted arrest and was detained following a TASER deployment near Sherman Avenue and Grant Avenue. After he was taken into custody, it was determined that Grimes sustained a stab wound to his left shoulder as a result of the fight with Seniga. Grimes was transported to a local hospital by Novato Fire Department Paramedics for treatment. Darnell Seniga was positively identified as the person involved in the fight with Grimes and the person in possession of the knife.  The knife involved in the attack was located in a trash can in the 1600 block of Grant Avenue. The female observed in the area at the time of the fight was not located.

Darnell Seniga was placed under arrest for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Battery Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Destruction of Evidence and Violation of Probation.

Ryan Grimes was placed under arrest for Resisting Arrest, Violation of Probation, Failure to yield to a law enforcement officer and Unlawful Fighting in Public. Grimes was recently convicted and placed on probation for 245 (A) (4) PC-Assault by Means Likely to Cause Great Bodily Injury upon a Novato Police Officer.
