Today at 5:31 PM, A SVPD Officer was on routine patrol in the area of Alamo St. and Texas Ave. The officer observed a known drug user and thief, Christopher McCabe, 29 yrs. old from Simi Valley, climbing out of the wash area carrying a bag. Due to previous thefts from vehicles in the area, the officer stopped and contacted McCabe. The officer attempted to handcuff McCabe and a fight ensued. McCabe struck the officer causing his head to snap back and strike the asphalt. McCabe was able to break free from the officer and run from the scene.

An Off-Duty Police Officer witnessed the incident and was able to cut off McCabe with his vehicle and detain him until SVPD Officers arrived and arrested McCabe.

The officer was transported to Simi Valley Hospital where he was treated for his moderate injuries. The officer was released from the hospital later in the evening.

McCabe was arrested and booked at Ventura Main Jail for Felony Battery on a Police Officer inflicting injury.

The SVPD would like to thank the Off-Duty Officer as well as several other witnesses in their awareness and involvement in this incident.
