Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 11:15PM

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Southeastern Menard County in central Illinois... Northwestern Sangamon County in central Illinois...

* Until 1115 PM CDT.

* At 1024 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Athens, or 11 miles northwest of Springfield, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include... Springfield, Chatham, Sherman, Rochester, Riverton, Athens, Williamsville, Pleasant Plains, Jerome, Southern View, Leland Grove, Grandview, Spaulding, Dawson, Clear Lake, Curran, Cantrall, Capital Airport, Salisbury and Farmingdale. Those attending the Illinois State Fair are in the path of this storm and should prepare for IMMINENT DANGEROUS WEATHER CONDITIONS. SEEK SHELTER NOW! This includes the following highways... Interstate 55 between mile markers 89 and 107. Interstate 72 between mile markers 90 and 112.

Instructions:

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
