Suspect Identified in August 6th Homicide

**UPDATE 8/16/18**
The suspect in the August 6th homicide of Letha Portis has been identified as Iyesia James, a 43-year old Woodland resident.  Detectives have determined that the two women knew each other and were involved in an altercation immediately preceding the assault on the victim.  Following the assault, the suspect fled and has not been located.  Iyesia James may currently be transient within the City of Fairfield.  Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Ms. James is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Department or your local agency.  Do not approach the suspect.   A photo of Iyesia James is attached to this release.

The victim in this case is identified as 51 year old Letha Bell Portis, a female Fairfield resident.  This is still an active investigation and no additional details will be released at this time.

**ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW**
The Fairfield Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Monday night.  Officers were originally called to a business in the 1700 Block of North Texas Street just before 11:00pm for a reported assault.  Officers arrived and located an unconscious female victim bleeding in the parking lot.  They rendered first aid until the victim could be transported to the hospital by paramedics.
 
The victim, an adult female, died at the hospital.  Her identity is withheld pending notification of her family.  Detectives from the Investigations Bureau were called out to take over the investigation.  No arrests have been made.  This is an active investigation and no additional details will be released at this time.
