Narrative:
On July 22, 2018, Sheriff’s Deputies from the Headquarters Station responded to report of a stabbing that occurred the previous night. On July 21, 2018 at approximately 2130 hours, the victim was walking in the 200 block of Simon Way in El Rio when he was confronted by a suspect demanding money. When the victim stated he had no money, the suspect stabbed the victim in his forearm, causing injury. Additionally, deputies located what appeared to be recently tagged street gang graffiti in the immediate area of the assault.

Detectives from the Headquarters Station and the Sheriff’s Gang Unit conducted a follow-up investigation which resulted in the discovery of additional crimes committed on the night of July 21st by the same suspect. After the initial attack on Simon Way, the same suspect walked to the Valero gas station where he brandished a knife and yelled gang slogans at two additional victims.

After a three week investigation was concluded, the weapon believed to have been used in both attacks was located and a juvenile male suspect was identified. On August 10, 2018, a search warrant was executed along with a probation search leading to the arrest of the suspect, identified as a local gang member.
