DUARTE WEEKLY CRIME BLOTTER August 05 - August 11, 2018

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of August 05 – August 11, 2018
 
August 05, 2018

  • Deputies conducted a traffic stop of an adult male on a bicycle for a traffic violation.  During the traffic stop, the male was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics and placed under arrest.  After further investigation, the amount of narcotics found appear to have been more than just for personal use, and the suspect was charged with possession of illegal narcotics for sales.           
 
August 06, 2018
  • A Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 1400 block of Santo Domingo Avenue.  A 1997 Honda Accord was stolen from the street between 5:30 am on August 5th and 8:00 am August 6th.  The vehicle has not been recovered.
 
  • A Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 900 block of Highland Avenue.  A 2004 Honda CVR 600 motorcycle was stolen between 6:00 pm August 5th and 9:30 pm August 6th.  The motorcycle has not been recovered. 
 
August 07, 2018
  • An Armed Robbery was reported in the 900 block of Junipero Drive.  The victim offered to sell an I-Phone to a female on the “Offer Up’” app.  When the victim met the female to finalize the transaction, the female ran off with the phone.  When the victim chased after her, he was confronted by a male adult who brandished a knife and demanded the victim to give him his wallet.  Fearing for his safety, the victim complied.  The male then ran to a gray Volkswagen driven by the female, and both drove off out of sight.     
 
August 08, 2018
  • A Residential Burglary occurred on July 30, 2018, but was not reported until this date.  The delay in reporting the incident, was due to the victim wanting to make sure they didn’t misplace their items.  Approximately $2,100 worth of camera equipment was stolen.  There were no signs of forced entry.
 
  • A Commercial Burglary was reported at 1727 Buena Vista Street “Life Storage”.  While conducting s security check of the business, an employee noticed a storage unit was partially open and the master lock had been replaced with a cheaper one.  Shortly after returning to the office, the employee called the owner of the storage shed, who stated they have not been to the storage in several months.  After reviewing video surveillance, it appears a male adult was seen walking away with several boxes belonging to the victim, and leaving in a gray Jeep Cherokee.  This investigation is on-going.
 
 
  • A Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 1500 block of Fairdale Avenue.  A 1996 Honda Accord was stolen and recovered shortly after in the 1800 block of Evergreen Street.  No suspects in custody.  
 
August 09, 2018
  • A Petty Theft/Shoplifting was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  An adult male from Arleta was detained by Loss Prevention Officers after observing him walk out of the store without paying for miscellaneous clothing.  The suspect admitted to deputies he tried stealing the items and was placed under arrest for shoplifting.  Incident to the arrest, deputies revealed the suspect had outstanding warrants for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of illegal narcotics and receiving stolen property. 
 
  • A Petty Theft/Shoplifting was reported at 1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart).  An adult male was observed selecting a power washer and placing it in a cart.  As the suspect approached an emergency exit door, he removed the power washer and ran out the emergency exit.  The suspect entered the passenger side of a black Honda Civic being driven by a female adult.  The vehicle was last seen through the parking lot towards Evergreen Street and out of view.
 
August 10, 2018
  • A Vandalism was reported at 1265 Huntington Drive at the “Verizon” store.  Surveillance video shows that at approximately 2:44 am, three males are seen standing in front of the glass doors, when one of the males shatters the glass door with an unknown object.  No entry was made into the store.  The males were last seen driving away in a light colored vehicle and out of view.  Damage was estimated at approximately $1,100.
 
  • Deputies responded to 1230 Huntington Drive, and contacted the owner regarding an unauthorized person lodging on his property which is under renovation.  Deputies contacted an adult female who was homeless inside the boarded up property.  After further investigation, the female was arrested on two outstanding warrants and for lodging without the owner’s consent.    
 
August 11, 2018
  • A Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 1300 block of Buena Vista Street.  A 1997 Honda Accord was stolen.  The vehicle has not been recovered. 
 
  • Due to community concerns of individuals loitering in city parks after hours, deputies detained an adult male and female who were seated in the back seat of a vehicle in the “Encanto Park” parking lot.  The deputies pointed out a posted and unobstructed sign showing the park hours from sunrise to 10:00 pm.  The two individuals were cited and released for violating Duarte Municipal Code 9.20.012 by remaining in the park after hours.

  • Deputies arrested (3) adult males on outstanding felony warrants, an adult male on an outstanding traffic warrant, (4) adult males on outstanding misdemeanor warrants, an adult male and female for possession of illegal narcotics, and an adult male for spousal battery.     
 
August 09, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male for possession of illegal narcotics, and an adult male for shoplifting.
 
 
August 10, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male for being intoxicated in public, an adult male for under the influence of a controlled substance, and an adult female for loitering without owners consent.
 
August 11, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, an adult male and female for DUMC/loitering in the park after hours.
