Replica Handguns Used in Attempted Robbery of Convenience Store

On 8/14/18, at approximately 4:17 AM, two masked suspects entered the 7-11 convenience store, located at 2543 Royal Ave., held the clerk at gunpoint and demanded money. A physical altercation took place between the clerk and the suspects, at which time, the clerk was able to wrestle the gun away from one of the them. With one of the suspects disarmed, they both fled the business, without any merchandise or money. As SVPD units arrived, an area check was conducted. Both suspects were seen running from the scene. Officers took chase and were able to detain one of the suspects after a short foot pursuit. The other suspect was seen running northbound toward Frontier Park. Units converged on the park and he was detained as well. Using surveillance video and witnesses, both suspects were positively identified as the Attempted Robbery suspects. During the investigation and search for the suspects, a third suspect was also detained. The investigation revealed that, he too, was complicit in the attempted robbery. The investigation also revealed that the two initial robbery suspects were armed with replica handguns. All three suspects (juveniles) were place under arrest for 664/211 PC, Attempted Robbery, 245 PC, Assault w/Deadly Weapon and 182 PC, Conspiracy. They were all booked at the Ventura County Juvenile Detention Facility.
