Air Quality, Smoke and the Grant County Fair: info from the Board of County Commissioners and the Health District

Air Quality, Smoke and the Grant County Fair: info from the Board of County Commissioners and the Grant County Health District

The Grant County Fair is ready to start on schedule Tuesday. Currently, there are no plans to close the Fair due to air quality concerns. A decision to close the Fair would come only after collaboration between public safety officials and others.

We want to reassure people that closing the Fair is an absolute last resort and only done when there is an extreme risk to public safety. Air quality will be one of the hazards which will be constantly evaluated throughout the Fair. Currently, there are no plans to close the Fair.

The Grant County Health District continues to work closely with the Grant County Commissioners and Sheriff Tom Jones to plan for the possibility of poor air quality during Fair Week. When air quality becomes dangerous for Grant County residents, Public Health officials utilize the Washington State Department of Ecology air quality monitoring system to inform decision makers about the safety of the air. Decisions regarding closures are joint and collaborative. The Health District’s number one goal is to keep you safe and informed and when possible not interfere with events. We look forward to seeing you out at the Grant County Fair!
