A man is arrested for being in possession of a firearm after he leads deputies on a foot pursuit

INCIDENT: Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Controlled Substance While Armed
LOCATION: D Street, Victorville
SUSPECT(S): Steven Rugelio, 31-year old Canyon Country resident
SUMMARY: On August 8, 2018, Deputy V. Quiroz, from the Victorville Police Department, attempted to make a traffic stop on D Street for violation of a vehicle code.
As Deputy Quiroz approached the vehicle the driver, Steven Rugelio, exited and fled on foot. Quiroz followed and during the foot pursuit he observed Rugelio had his right hand pressed close to his waistband securing what appeared to be pouch or holster. A handgun and holster were recovered from a planter, where Rugelio dropped them before surrendering near 11th Street. Assisting deputies located ammunition and suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle.
Rugelio was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and possession of a controlled substance while armed.
