Investigators conduct an operation to crack down on street racing and other vehicle code violations

DATE/TIME: August 8, 2018 / 9:02 pm

INCIDENT: Street Racing/Vehicle Code Violations Operation

LOCATION: Bear Valley Road and Amethyst Road, Victorville

SUMMARY: On August 8, 2018, deputies from the Victorville Police Department, with the assistance of the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force (SANCATT), conducted an operation to crack down on street racing and other vehicle code violations.

Over the past several months the Victorville Police Department received complaints from businesses and residents and responded to numerous calls for service, regarding vehicles and car clubs gathering in a shopping center at Bear Valley and Amethyst Roads every Wednesday night. The complaints ranged from vehicles illegally parked, to drivers doing donuts in the parking lot, and street racing in the surrounding neighborhoods. All those actions pose potential safety hazards for customers, residents, and citizens in the area, as well as those participating in the illegal activities.

During the operation, 1 arrest was made for reckless driving, 1 arrest was made for possession of stolen vehicle components, 2 arrests were made for trespassing, 90 parking citations issued, 12 equipment citations issued, 7 vehicles were referred to the State of California Bureau of Automotive Repair Smog Check Referee, 2 citations for driving without a license were issued, and 9 vehicles were towed for various violations.

These gatherings may appear, on the surface, to be harmless. However, as evidenced in the statistics listed in this press release and from other stories publicized across the nation, there is a potential for serious injuries, criminal activity, and disruption to businesses and families. The Victorville Police Department will continue to take steps to keep the neighborhoods and streets in our community safe.
