PLANNED SAFETY EXERCISE AT MILPITAS TRANSIT CENTER

DATE: Saturday, August 11, 2018; 9:30 AM
LOCATION: Milpitas Transit Center, 700 Montague Expressway, Milpitas

Local and State first responders are diligently preparing for the safe and convenient arrival of BART service in Santa Clara County. As part of the preparation, the Milpitas Police Department is participating in a multi-jurisdiction simulation exercise organized by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. The day-long event offers law enforcement, fire department, medical, transportation, and communications professionals the opportunity to train together during a simulated emergency event.

This exercise, with the support of hundreds of volunteers, is part of the continuous risk mitigation efforts local agencies are undertaking to ensure a safer community in Santa Clara County.

The goal of this exercise is to test emergency protocols in a vast environment in order to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the collaborating stakeholders.

During the early portions of the exercise, simulated gunfire and explosions may be audible in the immediate area surrounding the transit center. We want to emphasize this is SIMULATED, NOT REAL!

The event is closed to the public, but media is invited to cover portions of the exercise.

Participating in this simulated emergency event include the Milpitas Police Department, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, San Jose Police Department, California Highway Patrol, BART Police, Milpitas Fire Department, San Jose Fire Department, Santa Clara County Fire Department, Santa Clara County EMS, VTA, BART, and Communications Centers for participating agencies.
