Attempted theft results in felony assault charge

On August 8th at 5:11 a.m., officers with the patrol division were dispatched to the 1900 block of E 4th Avenue in response to an assault.

Upon arrival, officers saw an adult male bleeding from his nose and face. Across the street was another adult male near a motorhome; the front of his shirt was soaked in blood.

The preliminary investigation found that an adult male and his wife were asleep in their RV motorhome when they woke up to the sound of someone on the roof. When the male walked outside, he saw an adult male suspect on top of the RV attempting to steal his bicycle off the bike rack.

When he confronted the suspect, the suspect initiated a physical altercation. During the fight, the suspect punched the victim and stabbed him with a small pointed instrument. The victim sustained several scratches as well as puncture wounds to the leg and chest. During the altercation, the suspect bit the victim on the arm. The victim then leaned down and bit the suspect back on the face, removing a large chunk of his nose. Both the victim and the suspect sustained non-life threatening injuries. The victim transported himself to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for his facial injuries.

The suspect has been identified as 38 year old Robert Moses Leroy Russell. Officers have obtained a felony warrant for his arrest on the charge of Assault II.
