Chicken, Ribs, hot dogs, popcorn and a free screening of the classic flick Star Wars: The Last Jedi may not appear like traditional crime fighting but that's exactly what Duarte residents will be doing when they gather at Encanto Park on August 7, 2018 to celebrate the City’s 36th annual National Night Out Against Crime.

Neighborhood Watch block captains, with the support of Duarte Public Safety and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, are inviting all Duarte residents to this free event. Non-profit, Marvell West will provide free chicken, hot dogs, ribs and hot links to the first 500 people at 6:00 pm with the movie starting at dusk. Duarte deputies, firefighters, non-profit and other local organizations, as well as city officials will be on hand to serve food and giveaway over $200 in raffle prizes provided by National event sponsor Ring. 

In addition, there will be two amazing costume prizes. The most creative Star Wars costume contest for adults will offer the following prizes: 1st place- $150, 2nd place, $100, and 3rd place-$50. We thank Seidner’s Collision Center for sponsoring the contest. But wait, there’s more! Thanks to our sponsors SCE FCU there will be a contest for youth 10 and under: 1st place-$50, 2nd place-$30, and 3rd place-$20.

Hundreds of Duarte residents are expected to participate in the annual citywide "going away party" for crime. As a National Night Out participant, Duarte residents join citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities across the nation in the fight against crime. The crime, drug and violence prevention program, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch is designed to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized against crime and fighting back.
