Excessive Heat Warning until 08:00PM Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued an Excessive Heat Warning, which is in effect from 10 AM to 8 PM PDT Wednesday. The Excessive Heat Watch is no longer in effect.

* TIMING...Late Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. The excessive heat may extend through the remainder of this week as little change in temperatures is possible.

* TEMPERATURES...Highs 105 to 110 degrees. Lows in the 70s to lower 80s.

* IMPACTS...The heat can cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure. Heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke will be possible. Stay hydrated and take more frequent breaks from activities. People most vulnerable include those who are spending lots of time outdoors... those who do not have air conditioning...young children...the elderly...and those with chronic ailments.

* AFFECTED AREAS: INDIAN WELLS VALLEY ... SOUTHEASTERN KERN COUNTY DESERT

Instructions:

Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
