Alert

Red Flag Warning until 10:00AM Tuesday

A very warm and dry air mass under high pressure aloft will fill in the mountains and valley areas today. This airmass will change little through Tuesday, Expect single digit humidities each day away from the coast, with poor overnight recoveries in the foothills and mountains. Gusty north winds will peak today and tonight over the favored areas, with gusts in the 30 to 50 mph range. This will likely result in critical fire weather conditions where the winds are the strongest, including most mountain areas, southern Santa Barbara County, and possibly the Santa Clarita Valley. Rapid fire spread should be expected if fire ignition occurs. The winds will weaken on Tuesday but some areas will see a quick wind reversal to onshore by Tuesday afternoon which will continue to critical fire weather concerns. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and very low humidity, which is in effect until 10 AM PDT Tuesday.

* Winds...Areas of north to northeast winds 10 to 25 mph with gusts 35 mph.

* Relative Humidity...Minimum 4 to 10 percent. Very poor overnight recovery of 15 to 25 percent.

* Temperatures...Maximum 92 to 102 degrees lower elevations.

* Impacts...If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for very rapid fire spread including long range spotting, and extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY MOUNTAINS / LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST

Instructions:

that critical fire weather conditions are expected. A combination of strong winds...very low relative humidity...hot temperatures, and very dry fuels can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Please use extreme caution near fire ignition sources.
