DUARTE WEEKLY CRIME BLOTTER July 29 - August 4, 2018

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of July 29 – August 04, 2018
 
July 29, 2018

  • No significant activity.           
 
July 30, 2018
  • A Burglary was reported at 1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart Parking Lot).  Between 4:00 pm July 27th and 11:00 pm July 29th, person(s) unknown entered the construction site through an unlocked gate.  The suspect(s) then cut the master lock to a tool storage bin and stole two paint sprayers.  Forcible entry was then made into the office bungalow, where a roto hammer was stolen.  Loss of the tools was estimated at approximately $2,700.
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported in the 1900 block of Citrus Lane.  The victim stated that between 9:00 pm on July 29th and 1:30 am on July 30th, someone stole two work ladders from the open truck bed of a work truck that was parked on the street.  A tire and rim were also stolen from the victims other vehicle that was also parked on the street at the same location.    
 
July 31, 2018
  •  A Petty theft was reported in the 1300 block of Royal Oaks Drive.  Between 5:00 pm, July 27th and 1:00 pm, July 31st, someone stole a battery to a vehicle that was parked on the street.
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported in the 1300 block of Third Street.  Between 9:00 pm, July 30th and 5:55 am, July 31st, someone stole two rims and tires to a 2014 Honda Accord.
 
  • A Petty theft was reported at 1050 Huntington drive (Target).  While the victim was shopping, person(s) unknown stole the victim’s I-Phone that was sitting on a child’s car seat in the shopping cart.  Using the tracking application, the phones last known location was somewhere in the 2500 block of Myrtle Avenue before it was turned off.

  • No significant activity.      
 
August 02, 2018
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  An adult female was detained by loss prevention officers after she was observed selecting approximately $170 in miscellaneous clothing and failed to pay for the merchandise.  The suspect stated to deputies that she decided to take the items after she scanned them at the self-check-out isle and her credit card was declined.
 
  • Deputies were patrolling “Encanto Park” due to numerous recent complaints from residents regarding persons sleeping and causing a disturbance in the park after hours.  Deputies contacted four male adults and after further investigation, arrested them for violating Duarte’s Municipal Code for being in the park after 10:00 pm.  All four were cited and released in the field.    
 
August 03, 2018
  • A Commercial Burglary was reported at 1185 Huntington Drive (H & J Jewelers).  The owner of the business received an audible alert from the alarm company at approximately 5:30 am.  When he arrived to the jewelry store, he noticed a tile was missing from the drop down ceiling, and items missing from a display case.  After further investigation and reviewing surveillance video, it was determined an adult male wearing a mask covering his mouth, entered the store through the ceiling, stole approximately $1,000 in jewelry and exited through the back door. 
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  A female juvenile was detained by loss prevention officers after she walked out of the store with approximately $250 in clothing, cosmetic and miscellaneous items.  The subject stated she need the items for the start of the school year.
 
August 04, 2018
  • At approximately 6:55 am, deputies and the fire department responded to the 1500 block Huntington drive, regarding a call of a person down on the sidewalk.  Upon arrival, they saw a male adult lying on the sidewalk who was unresponsive.  The male was ultimately pronounced deceased by fire department personnel a few minutes after arrival.  There appeared to be no signs of trauma, and the cause of death in unknown.  The coroner arrived on scene a short time later and took possession of the deceased.

July 30, 2018
  • Deputies arrested/cited out an adult male for DUMC 6.20.085/smoking in park, an adult male on an outstanding assault with a deadly weapon warrant, and an adult male on an outstanding shoplifting warrant. 
 
July 31, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male on an outstanding warrant for possession of burglary tools, an adult male for DUMC 9.20.012/park curfew, and an adult male for DUMC 9.24.010/drinking in public.
 
August 01, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male on an outstanding narcotics warrant.    
 
August 02, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult female for petty theft, and four adult males for DUMC 9.20.012/park curfew.
 
August 03, 2018
  • Deputies arrested a female juvenile for shoplifting, an adult male on an outstanding loitering warrant and an adult female on an outstanding petty theft warrant. 
 
August 04, 2018
  • No significant activity.
