Alert

Red Flag Warning until 09:00PM Tuesday

High pressure will strengthen over the area into early next week, bringing another round of hot and dry conditions to the area. Triple digit temperatures will be likely away from the coast Monday and Tuesday with very warm overnight low temperatures. Gusty north winds will develop across the region, strongest across the Santa Barbara county south coast and mountains, as well as the Interstate 5 corridor. These northerly winds combined with hot temperatures, very low humidities, and very dry fuels will bring critical Red Flag conditions to those areas through Tuesday. Any new fire ignitions will have the potential for very rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior. The remainder of Southwest California will see elevated fire danger through much of the week due to the prolonged period of hot and dry conditions. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty north winds, hot temperatures, and very low relative humidity, which is in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to 9 PM PDT Tuesday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

* Winds...Areas of northwest to north winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts 35 to 45 mph, strongest across the Interstate 5 corridor tonight through Monday night.

* Relative Humidity...Minimum relative humidity 3 to 10 percent with little or no overnight recovery.

* Temperatures...Max temperatures 90 to 100 degrees today, rising to 93 to 103 degrees on Monday.

* Impacts...If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for very rapid fire spread including long range spotting, and extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property.

* AFFECTED AREAS: VENTURA COUNTY MOUNTAINS / LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST ... LOS ANGELES COUNTY MOUNTAINS / ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST

Instructions:

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected. A combination of strong winds...very low relative humidity...hot temperatures, and very dry fuels can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Please use extreme caution near fire ignition sources.
