Advisory

Traffic Alert: Southbound Mission Blvd. traffic is stopped once again to allow the tow trucks to remove the truck.

New update:
We have had to close the southbound lanes of Mission Blvd. again to allow the tow trucks to set up.  A second tow truck was requested to assist and they will now work to remove the truck from the roadway.  Once that occurs, we will do our best to get the roadway cleared and traffic as back to normal as possible, for a Friday evening. We appreciate everyone's patience.

Update #1
Officers have opened Palm and Driscoll to southbound traffic.  Please follow all directions and proceed with caution as our first responders continue to clear the debris and scene.  Northbound lanes remain closed.  We'd like to thank Cal Trans District 4 and also Great America Tow for their expedited response to assist.

Original Message:
We are currently investigating a major traffic collision on Mission Blvd., just north of I680 in the Mission San Jose area.

At 2:16 p.m. several 911 calls came in reporting that a dump truck had overturned as it exited from southbound I680 and made the right turn onto Mission Blvd north.  The truck crossed the raised center median, dumped gravel and landed on top of a Ford sedan, crushing it.  Both drivers sustained visible injuries, considered non-life threatening.

Mission Blvd is closed in both directions from I680 (north) to Driscoll Rd.  The clean-up will be extensive and the roads are expected to be closed for a few hours.  Unfortunately this is right in the middle of the Friday evening commute.

Fremont Fire and Transportation Engineering are also involved with the investigation and have beeen extremely helpful with this incident.

Please avoid the area until further notice.
