MONMOUTH COUNTY MOSQUITO CONTROL DIVISION

NOTICE

In an effort to reduce the number of flying mosquitoes present during the Italian Festival, the Mosquito Control Division with be conducting 2 control operations as follows:

1. Treating standing water by helicopter FRIDAY, August 3, 2018 between 7-9 AM. The actual treatment will take minutes; however, we cannot say precisely when within the timeframe we will be flying over the park.

The helicopter will be flying low and treating large areas of standing water in the woods. Please stay off the walking trails and indoors if possible. The product being applied is Vectobac, a granular pesticide targeting mosquito larvae. The active ingredient is Bti, which is a naturally occurring bacteria considered to be a natural pesticide by organic farmers.

2. Adult mosquito control by truck, WEDNESDAY, August 8, 2018 between 4-6 AM

The Division will be applying Zenivex 4E RTU using Ultra Low Volume application equipment that sends out a fine mist that kills flying adult mosquitoes on contact. We will be driving the truck on the walking trails, along the tree line and around the perimeter of the fairgrounds, assuming truck access.

The active ingredient in Zenivex is Etofenprox, a non-ester pyrethroid, and is the same ingredient found in some pet flea collars. USEPA has classified Etofenprox as a reduced risk pesticide and poses a low risk to human health and the environment when used properly.
There are no special precautions necessary to take; however, the Division requests people and pets stay indoors during this time.

Both of these operations are weather permitting. The Division will notify the Township of Ocean’s Recreation Office when these operations have been completed.
