Flood Warning Extended to 7:45 PM - Etowah County

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BIRMINGHAM HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD WARNING FOR...
ETOWAH COUNTY IN NORTHEASTERN ALABAMA...
CHEROKEE COUNTY IN NORTHEASTERN ALABAMA...

* UNTIL 745 PM CDT WEDNESDAY.

* AT 140 PM CDT, DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED HEAVY RAIN THAT WILL CAUSE
FLOODING. OVER TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAVE ALREADY FALLEN IN THE PAST
THREE HOURS AND OVER TWO INCHES OF RAIN ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH 4 PM
THIS AFTERNOON. CONTINUED RAINFALL ON SATURATED SOILS WILL CAUSE
WATER RUNOFF THAT WILL AFFECT URBAN, LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE
AREAS.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...
GADSDEN, RAINBOW CITY, ATTALLA, HOKES BLUFF, CENTRE, CEDAR BLUFF,
LITTLE RIVER CANYON NATIONAL PRESERVE, FORNEY, CENTRE MUNICIPAL
AIRPORT, GLENCOE, SARDIS CITY, LEESBURG, ALTOONA, WALNUT GROVE,
REECE CITY, SAND ROCK, GAYLESVILLE, CHEROKEE ROCK VILLAGE, AURORA
AND PLEASANT GAP.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS. MOST FLOOD
DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES.

IN HILLY TERRAIN THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF LOW WATER CROSSINGS WHICH ARE
POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS IN HEAVY RAIN. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS FLOODED
ROADS. FIND AN ALTERNATE ROUTE.
