Flash Flood Watch until 08:00PM Thursday

A deep upper trough and associated southerly flow will result in rapidly increasing moisture today. Periods of showers and thunderstorms will begin later today and continue through at least Thursday, and with the continued heavy rainfall will come the threat for flash flooding. The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia.

* from noon EDT today through Thursday evening

* Periods of heavy rainfall will begin this afternoon and continue through at least Thursday evening, with widespread storm total rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches across the mountains, foothills and adjacent Piedmont, with local amounts up to 6 inches possible. While rainfall will be less over the Piedmont closer to the Charlotte Metro area, 2 to 3 inches with locally 4 will be possible. As soils saturate, flash flooding will become increasingly likely across the area.
