Woman facing multiple charges after leading deputies on 42.9-mile chase

Deputy David Jones of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Kimberly Dawn Calloway, 39, of 18 Bingham Road in Asheville, with fleeing to elude arrest, possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, injury to personal property, resisting a public officer, expired or no inspection, operating a vehicle with no insurance, expired registration card or tag, aggressive driving, center line violation and designated lane violation.
Calloway led deputies on a 42.9-mile chase from McDowell to Buncombe counties early Thursday morning, July 26 before being apprehended.
At 1:15 a.m., Jones was on Sugar Hill Road, when he was almost struck by a Jeep traveling in the wrong lane. He turned around and stopped the vehicle at Pilot truck stop.
Calloway stood in front of her car as Jones checked her license plate and spoke with a Marion police officer that had arrived on the scene. The deputy found that Calloway had no insurance, an expired tag and an expired inspection. She was also wanted out of Buncombe County.
At the Pilot, Calloway jumped back into her vehicle and headed westbound on I-40 at a high rate of speed. Black Mountain police officers deployed a spike strip at Exit 65, causing her to lose both front tires.
She continued onto I-240 in Asheville then to Chunns Cove Road, Tunnel Road, Fairview Road, Swannanoa River Road, Riceville Road, Bull Creek Road and Shope Creek Road, which turns to gravel. She spun her tires on Shope Creek, throwing a rock into the patrol cruiser’s windshield, and eventually got the Jeep stuck, at which time she was apprehended.
During the pursuit, Calloway was continuously driving at high speeds, weaving in and out of traffic and traveling on the wrong side of the road.
A search of her vehicle turned up 27.8 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
