Drowning Investigation Continues

Cape May Court House, New Jersey - Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Lower Township Police Chief William Mastriana are advising the public of a joint investigation being conducted in the Cape Island Wildlife Management Area, commonly
known as Lepores’ Pit in the Erma section of Lower Township.

On Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 4:08PM, the Lower Township Police Department responded to a medical assistance call at the Wildlife Management Area. Upon arrival officers were directed to the bank of a lake on the property where they observed a male, later identified
as Victor Zenglin, 34 years old of the Villas section of Lower Township, lying on his back. The victim was unconscious and rescue efforts were attempted but were unsuccessful.

An investigation was immediately initiated by the Major Crimes Unit of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Detectives from the Lower Township Police Department. On Wednesday, July 25, 2018 an autopsy was conducted by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner who ruled that that there were no signs of foul play and Zenglin's
manner of death was listed as “Pending Toxicology” reports.

At this time, Prosecutor Sutherland and Chief Mastriana want to assure the public that there is no reason to be alarmed of any danger in the surrounding area of the incident and as more details evolve further information will be released to the public.

Prosecutor Sutherland said this is an ongoing investigation and urges anyone who has information concerning this incident to contact the Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135 or the Lower Township Police Department at 609-886-1619, or report it anonymously through
