The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

July 25th

1004 Hours: Officer Herrera investigated an auto burglary on the 36400 block of Dijon Drive. The loss is miscellaneous tools.

1430 Hours: Officer Palacio investigated the theft of a purse from an unlocked vehicle on the 37200 block of Elm Street.

1727 Hours: Office Arroyo contacted and arrested a 35-year-old Newark male for possession of a controlled substance for sales during a routine traffic stop on the 36900 block of Olive Street. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2221 Hours: Officers responded to the 37900 block of Dahlia Drive on a report of a suspicious person trying to gain entry to a home. Officer Taylor was the first to arrive and observed the suspect jump over the side fence into the backyard and continued jumping fences to the South. A perimeter was set and Union City Police K9 Officer Wilson and Officer Rodriguez responded to the scene to assist in the search. K9 Ace located the suspect in the backyard of a neighboring residence. The suspect, a 23-year-old Newark male was arrested for burglary, possession of a controlled substance, obstructing a police officer and his outstanding warrants. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2245 Hours: While assisting with the search for the suspect in the above case, Officer Geser located a person on a nearby street who closely matched the suspect’s description. The subject, a 38-year-old transient male failed to obey Officer Geser’s command to stop and was arrested for obstructing a Police Officer. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.
