Fremont Detectives would like to warn our community about a possible scam involving text messages that appear to be from victims’ personal banks.
The text messages/alerts will appear to be sent from the bank, and will direct customers to contact the bank via a link or call back number included in the text or email. The scammers then prompt the customer to provide card numbers, security codes and other personal information which is then used for fraudulent purposes.
Police are warning community members not to provide personal bank account information by email or over the phone, and to not give credit/debit card information out by email or phone.
It is recommended that if you have questions or concerns regarding your banking accounts, to contact your bank directly.
