Police Arrest Man on Assault with A Deadly Weapon and other Charges

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – July 19th, 2018– On July 21, 2018 at about 9:40 pm, Hollister police officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Sundance Drive for a report of a fight with weapons in the street outside of this residence.

There was a large party at that home and it was out of control. One of the callers told the dispatcher someone had a handgun and was involved in the fight. Officers Miguel Masso and Miguel Martin Del Campo arrived to about one hundred teens and young adults in the street. Witnesses directed Officer Masso to the main suspect, Wyatt Dennin (20), who had reportedly taken swings at people with brass knuckles. Upon being confronted by officers, Dennin discarded the knuckles, but was not compliant with officer’s commands. He was subsequently placed under arrest but a hostile crowd formed around the officers. Additional officers arrived to assist and they were able to restore order.

The owners of the party house had been in out of town due to a family death. Their kids, ages 19 and 20, texted a few friends for a pool party. The word got out via social media and people from Monterey, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, and Hollister arrived to partake in the festivities. Dennin, unknown to the people having the party, got into a fight with others there. Dennin allegedly hit several people, and was hit himself. He suffered a broken jaw. When Officer Masso arrived, Dennin was actively assaulting one of the victims. Dennin was taken to HHH for treatment, but transferred to San Jose Regional for emergency surgery on his face.

No other victims or suspects were identified. No gun was found, but one cell phone video of the party showed a person with Dennin brandishing a handgun.

Dennin was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, possession of brass knuckles and obstruction of an officer.

The Hollister Police Department would like to ask if anyone that was at the party, or knows of someone at the party that may have additional video of the suspect with the gun, to please contact the Hollister Police Department.
