OSBI is working the death of an inmate at the Pawnee County jail in Pawnee, Oklahoma. The decedent as been identified as 26-year-old Brittany Weide DeVerges. DeVerges was arrested by Pawnee police department at 0300 hours on Tuesday July 24 for public intoxication and possession of paraphernalia. DeVerges was booked into the jail in a detox cell. DeVerges was observed at 1030 hours and it was determined she should remain in the detox cell awhile longer. At noon on July 24, DeVerges was found unresponsive in the cell. She was observed with a handgun on her stomach and an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. All evidence indicates DeVerges snuck the weapon into the jail on her person. The investigation is ongoing. Reports will be turned over the Pawnee County District Attorney’s office when completed.
