The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

July 24th

1111 Hours: Officer Palacio investigated a grab-n-run theft from Hollister, NewPark Mall.

1133 Hours: Detective Musantry received a call from Fremont Police Department detectives who were on a follow up call at NewPark Mall regarding two individuals prowling in the parking lot. While waiting for additional Officers to arrive, the Fremont Detectives observe one suspect shatter a window of a vehicle, but when the alarm sounded the suspect fled to another area of the parking lot. Both suspects eventually leave the area and head North on Hwy. 880. Detective units from Newark and Fremont followed the vehicle into Oakland where the vehicle stopped at a gas station and both suspects were taken into custody. The two 25-year-old Oakland males were arrested for burglary, possession of burglary tools and probation violation. Both suspects were booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1348 Hours: Officer Wilkerson and Field Training Officer Warren responded to the 35100 block of Newark Boulevard to investigate a vandalism incident. Unknown suspect(s) broke the passenger side window of the vehicle. There is no loss at this time.

1454 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated a hit and run accident on the 35700 block of Haley Street.

1636 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated the theft of tools from the bed of a pickup truck on the 5900 block of Mowry Avenue.
