INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer, Willful Discharge of a Firearm with Gross Negligence, Inflicting Corporal Injury on a Spouse

LOCATION: 15400 block of Ferndale Road, Victorville

SUSPECT(S): Jon Lee Pennington, 37-year old Victorville resident

VICTIM(S): Confidential - San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy,
Confidential – 38 year old female


SUMMARY: On July 22, 2018, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to the 15400 block of Ferndale Road for a reported domestic violence disturbance.

The suspect, Jon Lee Pennington, was sitting on the porch at the location with a firearm. His wife was inside the house and heard a gunshot. She went out to the porch and took the gun, fearing someone would get hurt. The suspect grabbed her and pushed her to the ground before going back into the house. The first deputy at the location attempted to detain the suspect, who refused to cooperate. Necessary force was used to detain and take the suspect into custody. Ammunition and numerous firearms were located at the house and confiscated, including the handgun fired during the incident.

During the incident, the suspect hit the deputy causing minor injuries. The female victim suffered a laceration to her neck but declined medical attention. The suspect received minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. He was subsequently booked at High Desert Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon on a Peace Officer, willful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse.
