SUMMARY:
On July 21, 2018 at approximately 6:00 a.m., Deputy Ramstad located a stolen vehicle parked in front of 7204 Olive Street in the City of Highland. While contacting the occupants at 7204 Olive Street, a Hispanic male adult, later identified as Gabriel Otera, jumped out of a back window and began running. Otera was captured a short distance away and was detained without incident. Otera was found to be on Post Release Community Supervision for CVC 2800.2 (a) – Felony evading and was on felony probation for H&S 11378 – Possession of a controlled substance for sales. Deputies detained the occupants of the residence and authored a search warrant. The search warrant was served and deputies located a loaded handgun with a hi-capacity magazine, additional hollow-point bullets, suspected methamphetamine, counterfeit U.S. currency, multiple identification, debit/ credit cards, checkbooks, and other personal identifying information. Additionally, there were two small juveniles at the residence and there were multiple glass methamphetamine pipes as well as uncapped hypodermic needles within reach. The residence was uninhabitable and had no electricity or water.
Children and Family Services responded and took possession of the juveniles. One stolen vehicle and another suspected stolen vehicle were also recovered as a result of the search warrant. All seven suspects were arrested and booked into county jail for numerous felony charges.
Investigators are working with the City of Highland to determine if these suspects occupied the vacant residence illegally. The Highland Police Department encourages Highland residents to report suspicious behavior and to remain diligent in watching vacant residences as they are a breeding ground for crime. Residents are urged to contact law enforcement immediately if any suspicious activity is seen. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call 1-800-78-CRIME or report online at www.wetip.com.
