Just after 5:00 a.m., Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a home invasion with a gunshot victim at a residence on Old Jericho Road in Burton. When they arrived, deputies met with the adult male victim, who had sustained a single gunshot wound to his torso. The scene was secured and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to treat the victim. While he was being assessed by EMS at the scene, the victim was interviewed and advised that while he was sleeping, an unknown African-American male subject kicked in the door to his residence, demanded money at gunpoint and then shot him. The victim advised that the subject—wearing a mask and dark clothing—then fled the residence. EMS transported the victim to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he received treatment and was stabilized. The victim has since been transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina for additional treatment.

This morning, Sheriff's Office investigators processed the victim’s residence for forensic evidence. The incident remains under investigation.
