The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has expanded the
* Flash Flood Watch to include portions of north central Maryland, northern Virginia, and the panhandle of West Virginia, including the following areas, in north central Maryland, Frederick MD and Washington. In northern Virginia, Western Loudoun. In the panhandle of West Virginia, Jefferson.
* Through late tonight.
* Heavy rain is expected at times this afternoon into this evening. One to two inches of rain are expected with localized totals up to four inches.
* Excessive rainfall in a short period of time could lead to flash flooding. Urban areas, locations along small streams and creeks, and poor drainage areas are most vulnerable to flash flooding.
* AFFECTED AREAS: WASHINGTON ... FREDERICK ... JEFFERSON ... WESTERN LOUDOUN

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
