Several Firearms recovered by MCTF During Routine Traffic Stop

Crime:

  • 29800 (a)(1) PC- Felon in possession of a firearm
  • 30305 (a) PC- Felon in  possession of ammunition
  • 25850(c)(6) PC- Unregistered firearm
  • 11370.1 H&S Possession of Narcotics While Armed

Suspect:
  • Barnes, Timothy 29 year old Covina Resident

Unit:
  • The Pomona Police Department Major Crimes Task Force

     
Narrative:

On Friday, July 20th, 2018, around 11:43 PM, members of the Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) were conducting high visibility patrol in the area of Gillette and Dudley Ave when they observed a black Chevy Suburban with an equipment violation. Officers initiated a traffic stop as the driver entered the westbound 10 Freeway.
 
Officers made contact with the driver who identified himself as Timothy Barnes. Barnes notified officers he was probation for narcotic sales. When officers asked him to step out of the vehicle, they observed a concealed dagger in his waistband. Barnes was detained for the possession of an illegal weapon. As officers continued their investigation, they located a Tech 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a silencer and a 12 gauge shotgun located in his vehicle. Suspect Barnes admitted to both weapons.    

 Barnes was placed under arrest on suspicion of;
  • 29800 (a)(1) PC- Felon in possession of a firearm
  • 30305 (a) PC- Felon in possession of ammunition
  • 25850(c)(6) PC- Unregistered firearm
  • 11370.1 H&S- Possession of Narcotics While Armed

 
Barnes was booked at the Pomona City Jail.

The Pomona Police Department will continue to take a “Zero” Tolerance” approach to Gun related crimes.
