Simi Valley Police Assist Stranded Hiker

On July 19, 2018, at about 5:40 pm, Simi Valley Police Officers were called to the area of Evening Sky Drive and Yosemite Avenue to search for a stranded hiker. The hiker, a 41 year female Simi Valley resident, entered the trail in that area around 1:00 pm. A few hours later she texted her boyfriend, informing him that she was low on water and not feeling well. Simi Valley Police were called to the area and a search was coordinated. As part of the search resources including a helicopter and off road motorcycle team were requested. Before these resources arrived on scene a group of mountain bike riders located the hiker about 3 miles up the trail, headed toward Rocky Peak. The bikers gave her water and food. Once they confirmed that she was well they made their way to an area with cellular phone service where they notified officers of her whereabouts. The officers were able to locate and escort her to the roadway, where she was cared for by her boyfriend. The woman did not require any medical treatment.
The Simi Valley Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind hikers to follow certain safety steps such as bringing water, especially during the hot summer months and to carry a fully charged cell phone on their hike. We also encourage hikers to travel with a partner and leave information on the planned hike location with friends or relatives.
